NSPR 5 : Näsa & Mun Flashcards by stefan albrektsson

The olfactory nerve is purely sensory in function and transmits the sense of smell. The olfactory nerve originates in the nasal mucosa on the upper part of the nasal cavity as special sensory cells (neurosensory cells of the mucosa), which are the first-order neurons in the olfactory pathway. The human olfactory pathways can be divided into three parts [ 1, 2] (Fig. 1 ): The olfactory receptors are located in the mucosa of the nasal cavities. From there olfactory nerves run to the olfactory bulb which is located inside the bony skull beneath the orbital forebrain. Luktnerven, kranialnerv I (lat. nervus olfactorius) är en av kranialnerverna och består av ett 20-tal små nervtrådar.

To confirm the involvement of OR1D2 in bourgeonal-induced Ca 2+ responses, we co-applied the known antagonist undecanal (Spehr et al., 2003 ; 200 μM) together with bourgeonal (100 μM). The olfactory nervous system is a hierarchically ordered neuronal pathway that consists of three main stations: the olfactory epithelium, olfactory bulb and olfactory cortex.
